My Journey In Finance

With over 15 years of experience in finance across diverse industries and countries, I have developed a well-rounded expertise through various roles and continuous professional growth.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working across a spectrum of organizational types: from hands-on roles in mid-sized tech companies to structured finance positions in large, multinational corporations. I’ve managed finance in family-owned companies transitioning to corporate structures, in founder-led late-stage startups, and within joint ventures, including a complex 50-50 partnership between a major U.S. healthcare firm and a prominent Turkish conglomerate. Each setting brought unique challenges and valuable lessons, broadening my perspective on organizational cultures and strategic approaches.

My adaptability has proven invaluable, refining my approach to leadership, collaboration, and financial strategy. I have excelled in both fully remote roles—including four years of remote work for a U.S. SaaS company before the pandemic, and three years during the pandemic—and in-office environments. This flexibility has allowed me to thrive within diverse work dynamics, understanding and navigating the nuances of varied organizational cultures and work structures.

Currently, I work as a part-time financial consultant focusing on helping businesses in Turkey (remotely) while residing in BC, Canada. I support financial planning, budgeting, and process improvements of few of my clients (ie. Assan Panel, Akcansa). I hold CPA credential in Turkey and am in the process of converting it to Canadian CPA certification. I have passed all Core and Elective exams and am preparing for the Common Final Examination (CFE). I’m also working toward the US Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification and taking courses on AI tools to stay ahead in the coming AI transformation. This role allows me to apply my experience across different projects while dedicating time to professional development.

Previously, I served as Financial Director at Summa Linguae Technologies (SLT) in Vancouver, BC, for three and a half years (former name was Globalme). SLT operates in localization, data collection and managed services for big companies like Intel, Nike and Amazon. I was responsible from leading the finance department, financial operations, management reporting, overseeing budgeting, cash flow management and AR-AP processes. SLT in Poland (the HQ) is a public company, which required quarterly financial reporting and annual audit which we performed successfully. Managing SLT’s largest branch within the global organization, with $20M in revenue, provided me with deep insights into global financial complexities and streamlined processes.

Prior to SLT, I briefly consulted for EasyPark in Vancouver, BC, a public-private parking management firm. I collaborated with the CFO on implementing dashboarding solutions for their budgeting process (via Adaptive Insights), enhancing visibility and data-driven decision making.

At Trilogy Group in Austin, TX, I spent four and a half years as FP&A Director, managing financial planning for a $250M+ enterprise software group (SaaS). This experience was pivotal in sharpening my strategic planning skills as I worked closely with executives, analyzed financial data, and helped streamline the budgeting processes for global operations. During my tenure in Trilogy Group, I moved from Turkey to Canada with my wife to live here since I was working 100% remotely in this company.

In Turkey, I held the position of Financial Controller at AGT – Wood Developing Technology for one year, where I managed corporate risk and developed internal controls directly reporting to Board of Directors. AGT, a major player in wood product manufacturing, exports to over 70 countries. My role included risk mitigation, ensuring financial accuracy, and supporting a reliable monthly reporting process.

Earlier in my career, I spent five years as Financial Reporting and Internal Controls Manager at Eczacibasi & Baxter, a healthcare joint venture in Istanbul, Turkey, with a $200M+ revenue. I led a team preparing U.S. GAAP-compliant financial statements for the US partner and IFRS compliant financial statements for Turkish partner and played a significant role in an ERP transition that enhanced process compliance and reporting efficiency. Both partners were public companies, therefore I led the annual audit processes in this position.

My journey began at Deloitte in Ankara, Turkey, where I worked as an auditor for three years. Starting my career at a Big Four firm helped me build a solid foundation in financial standards and audit practices, which proved invaluable in my later roles.

These experiences have solidified my skills in financial management, reporting, and team leadership, as well as my commitment to continuous growth.
